Thanks Justin! Well, I was planning on doing each workout twice, but the new schedule this year (announcing workouts on Wednesday instead of Tuesday like they did last year) makes it more tricky. I wish they would cater to my schedule a little more. Sheesh! It will drive me crazy if I do the workout only once, knowing I could get a better score the second time, so I will probably end up doing them twice if I can figure out how to fit it all in!

I think there is a lot to be said for the athlete that does the open workout one time. Then it is a true test of random fitness and harnessed intensity.
However, everyone has experienced a workout they wish they could "do-over". A lot of us want to put our absolute best possible score on the screen. Plus, their is a lot on the line for many athletes and boxes so there is no doubt repeats will occur. At CrossFit Roseville, we will be fighting our tales off so we can get a team to regionals for the second year in a row. So if some of our athletes do the open workout the first time, and think they can get a better score and help the box have a better chance of getting a team to regionals, then they should repeat the wod.
The first time you play a new game or try a new workout it is always a learning experience. The second time you do an open wod you will likely get a better score. If a better score is necessary for an athlete's or a team's overall standings, and a better score is possible, then I would expect them to repeat the workout if they can do so without injury.
Each athlete should objectively evaluate the risk vs. reward and their personal potential for injury and overtraining if choosing to repeat an open wod.
Doing the same workout 2 times (some people even did them 3 times last year) at FULL intensity in less than a week does not support the CrossFit lifestyle principle of Constantly Varied workouts. But this where the difference between CrossFit for life and CrossFit for sport is more visible then usual. Athletes in professional sports risk personal injury for the team all the time. Even softball guy will risk life and limb for league games that ultimately don't effect team standings.
Camille, what are you thoughts about this?
