Competition comes from the Greek term “Competare” and means to strive together, to coincide, to agree. Opponents are viewed as co-creators of an experience, and competition as a process of striving with, not against, our opponent. Imagine the possibilities that such a statement carries. It implies that no conflict exists between our fellow competitors and ourselves. Competition is an inner conflict, a necessary struggle to fill the gap between who we are and who we may become. By striving and struggling for a worthwhile goal we choose to take responsibility for our lives, to actualize our potential. We freely reach beyond ourselves to find our purpose and in so doing we inspire others to reach beyond their own self—that is the beauty of competition.
