Week One in the Books

Week one of the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games Open is officially over. Congratulations on finishing the first workout of the season.

As of today, there are nearly 138,000 people registered to compete, including 25,000 Masters athletes and more than 2,800 teams. Of those registered, more than 120,000 people submitted validated scores for the the brutal combination of burpees and snatches.

We saw many familiar names pop up at the top of the Leaderboards, but with almost double the participation from last year, new athletes are showing what they’ve got.

While the results are still unofficial, the top performances are incredible. About 20 women topped 200 reps (that’s at least 10 snatches at 120 lb.), and about 15 men scored 191 or higher (at least one snatch at 210 lbs).

2010 Games champ Kristan Clever finished first worldwide on the women’s side with 211 reps. That’s 21 reps at 120 lb. For the men, Neal Maddox, a multi-year Games competitor out of Northern California, took the top spot overall with 199 reps (nine snatches at 210 lbs).

But it’s only week one and there are four more workouts. As in previous years, athletes will be ranked by their finish order each week, both worldwide and regionally. The top athletes will be those with the lowest cumulative finish positions.

And, don’t forget to tune in Wednesday, March 13 at 5 p.m., PT for the live announcement of Open Workout 13.2. This week, Annie Thorisdottir and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet will go head-to-head just minutes after 13.2 is announced from CrossFit South Brooklyn in New York City.

  1. Clever, and Maddox have NOTHING on our athletes. I saw or heard PRs coming from all over the place. I saw Marissa, Lindsey, Riza and Lexi all hit 150 reps. Two of our foundations athletes did the workout getting scores of 100 after less than 2 months of Crossfit.
